What is electrolysis?

Electrolysis uses a fine probe and electrical energy to treat an individual hair follicle. It does not rely on the pigment targeted by laser, so it may be an option for white, gray, blonde, or red hair. Treated follicles can be permanently destroyed, but several visits may be needed and new hormonally influenced growth can still occur.

Why clients choose electrolysis

  • An option for lighter hair

Because it does not rely on hair pigment, electrolysis can be considered for hairs that are poor laser targets.

  • Individual follicle treatment

The method allows detailed work on a limited number of hairs, with the area and appointment length agreed during assessment.

  • A complement to laser

A combined plan may use laser for suitable larger areas and electrolysis for remaining light hairs, with timing assessed individually.

How electrolysis works at Lotus

  1. Free consultation

Dina examines your hair, skin and the areas you want addressed, then discusses whether electrolysis, laser or a combination may suit your goals.

  2. Treatment sessions

Individual follicles are treated with a fine probe. Discuss appointment length, expected sensations and preparation before your visit; comfort varies by person and area.

  3. Plan the series

Hair-growth patterns and your response affect the number and timing of visits. Dina will discuss a schedule and review it as treatment progresses.

  4. Review progress

Progress and the number of visits vary with growth patterns, area size, and your response. Your specialist will review the plan and discuss any new hair growth.

Electrolysis may be an option for

  • Blonde, gray, red, or white hair laser can't target
  • Fine facial hair on chin, lip, and cheeks
  • Eyebrow shaping and hairline refinement
  • Finishing stray hairs after laser hair removal
  • Hormonal hair growth, including PCOS-related

Choosing laser or electrolysis

For dark, dense hair over large areas, laser hair removal may be an option. Electrolysis treats individual follicles without relying on hair pigment, which can make it an option for light hair or smaller areas. Dina can discuss whether either method, or a coordinated plan, suits your goals.

Electrolysis FAQs

Is electrolysis really permanent?
Electrolysis can permanently destroy a treated follicle. Repeated visits may be needed, and this does not guarantee that no new hairs will develop in the area. Hormonal changes, hair cycles, and the area treated affect the overall plan.
Electrolysis vs laser hair removal — which should I choose?
The choice depends on your hair, skin, treatment area and goals. Laser relies on suitable hair pigment, while electrolysis treats individual follicles. Dina can assess which approach, or combination, may be appropriate and explain the expected time and cost.
Does electrolysis hurt?
You may feel heat or a stinging sensation. Comfort varies by person and area. Discuss any comfort measures with your provider before using them, and tell the provider if you need a pause or have unexpected discomfort.
How many electrolysis sessions will I need?
The number and spacing of sessions depend on the area, hair density, growth pattern, and response. Your consultation is the place to discuss the time commitment and cost; no universal schedule guarantees complete clearance.
Can I combine electrolysis with laser hair removal?
A combined plan may be appropriate for some people. Your specialist can assess which areas and hairs suit each approach, discuss the timing and costs, and explain the limits of the proposed plan. Neither a combined plan nor a membership guarantees removal of every hair.
Does electrolysis have side effects?
Discomfort, redness, and temporary swelling can occur, and there is also a risk of infection, scarring, or pigment changes. Ask about preparation, sterile technique, and aftercare before your treatment.
